I happen to disagree with you. It sounds to me as if poor Mr Perry is being forced to acknowledge that wedding cake is not a particularly healthy substance, despite his own preference! The fact that he allows his own children to eat it proves that he is not altogether against it if 'taken moderately', and I do not see why he would wish more of DOMW's well-meaning admonitions on the Highbury residents.
