the journey is by no means impossible, but not something that could be done every day or even every week. To all intents and purposes, then, it doesn't really do Emma much good in the way of procuring a daily companion to replace Miss Taylor. The problem therefore is not so much the restrictions imposed by her father as those made by the transport in those times. Emma could hardly spend so much time and money travelling just for the sake of having a companion.
