I thought you were referring to the movie "Clueless" I was having the problem last night of picturing the movie in my mind while reading.

I think this part is just so funny and sad at the same time. Emma seems completely blind to the fact that Mr Elton isn't really praising Harriet as much as praising Emma. And then knowing that Mr Martin's feelings are sincere for Harriet, and all the things he did for her... and then to refuse him. Poor Mr. Martin
