Are you new?

For a young woman of wealth who had more active parents, 16 miles (of good road, as Mr. Darcy would say) wouldn't be a great distance. She might have travelled to London several times each month, for example.

But for Emma, going to a city the size of London--even if it were only eight miles off--is likely to be nearly out of the question. It's her father's attitudes that circumscribe her life.
