What is 16 miles of good road? ;-)   Written by Graciela (3/31/2008 10:19 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Sign of the times, penned by jen78
Are you new?

I suppose that they have a carriage, or the money to travel by post. I have been searching a bit in the L&T archives and it seem that a carriage speed was about 6 or 7 mph, or we can assume a speed of 5 mph, so it would be about 2 or 3 hours of travelling. That would not be something to do every day, or every week, but perhaps once a month, or once in two or three months.

I think that Emma's problem was that her father would not travel, and he would not like that she travelled (think of the perils on the road! :)), and/or she would not want to leave him alone.
