...because she has long since learned how to "manage" her father - let him think he's getting his own way, when many times he's actually getting hers! I don't mean this is all bad - she loves him, and many people would agree that a nervous person needs "managing" just to keep them from worrying all the time. I agree that Mr. Woodhouse wants control more often than he achieves it!
