Ch2, 1st paragraph:

"Mr Weston .... had satisfied an active, cheerful mind and social temper by entering into the militia of his county, then embodied."

What does embodied mean in this context? Does it mean that the county militia was in existence at that time, or that it was just being set up for the first time when Mr Weston joined it?
