Mr. Woodhouse loves to have company--as long as his friends will come and visit him on his own terms: his home, his table, his food, his schedule, his fire, etc.

I agree this is definitely a trait Emma shares with her father. She must be the one to arrange and decide how it will all be.

Mr. Woodhouse is sweet, but he is also very controlling in his own way. It is not surprising that Emma would be so fond of arranging and organizing everyone around her, to the point of being manipulative (not intended as a criticism, but still true), for she has learned this from earliest childhood. Emma even controls her father, although manages not to let him realize she is doing it.
