Mr. Knightley shook his head at her. Her father fondly replied, "Ah! my dear, I wish you would not make matches and foretel things, for whatever you say always comes to pass. Pray do not make any more matches." (Chapter 1)
I think Mr. Woodhouse’s view of Emma is a bit rose colored because she is so dear to him. Emma is quite capable of hiding what her father might find unpleasant such as Knightley criticizing her in Chapter 1 and he thinks too highly of her abilities at times. Mr. Woodhouse does not realize how much Emma misses Poor Miss Taylor and he seems to think whatever she says will come to pass. Great chart! (:D)
