Our guidelines for this read are pretty much the same as always:

First, please don't post spoilers (that is, don't talk about what happens later than the chapters for that week). We'll be deleting spoilers and their responses without comment. If a post of yours gets deleted and you don't know why, it's probably a spoiler or a response to one.

Next, please quote directly from the text to support your opinions instead of making a general allusion or summation. We have a whole week to talk about around 50 pages, and we can take the time to be clear. Please don't think you have quote every word in a paragraph or anything, but a short quote like "Mr. Woodhouse is 'an affectionate, indulgent father'" will help us know exactly what part of the text you are talking about.

And number two leads me to a note about citing text: please include the chapter number when you quote text. And let's use the consecutively number chapters instead of using Volume II, Chapter 2. The online text that is linked from the top of this page uses the consecutively numbering, so it's easier to just cut and paste from it when we quote.

The last plea: sometimes we need to agree to disagree and move on with our discussion. I don't want to stop people from discussing anything, but I also don't want to get bogged down with lots of restatements. It's a such a deliciously long novel, so let's talk about lots of things instead of debating a few.
