But another woman   Written by Nikki N (3/18/2011 12:24 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, The "other woman" wouldn't have to be from Highbury,, penned by Graciela
Are you new?

If Emma had not told Harriet the whole truth and had only said that Mr Knightley was in love with another woman, it would make no sense that -- at the beginning of chap 52 --

"It was a very great relief to Emma to find Harriet as desirous as herself to avoid a meeting. Their intercourse was painful enough by letter. How much worse, had they been obliged to meet!"

If Harriet thought that Mr Knightley was hopelessly in love with Mrs Weston or Jane Fairfax or Mrs Elton! or happily in love with some unknown woman he met in London, surely Harriet would want to be with her dear Miss Woodhouse for comfort.

Emma must have told Harriet the whole painful, awkward truth at once.
