Mrs. Elton as patroness   Written by Anne-Marie (3/17/2011 5:58 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, That's a lovely projection, but...., penned by Reeba
Are you new?

Ah, but whom will she patronize (and I mean that word in all its meanings!)? She can no longer make a project of finding a job for Jane, and I can't imagine that she would take an interest in any of the students at Mrs. Goddard's. For all her boasting on her brother Mr. Suckling, Mrs. Elton doesn't have any wealth to command, certainly not of the sort Emma and Mr. Knightley have. And once Frank marries Jane, I would imagine that he will assist Mrs. and Miss Bates, possibly even moving them to a larger home near Enscombe so that Jane will have them nearby, so they won't need any help from Mrs. Elton either. I project Mrs. Elton pressing Mr. Elton to get a living somewhere else where she can enjoy more prominence.
