that she had questioned Mr Knightley specifically about his feelings for Harriet? In fact, she would probably want to reassure Harriet that he had no idea of her feelings. Of course, it being Harriet - who, putting it as kindly as possible, does not have an analytical mind - I suppose a really plausible explanation wouldn't be needed. Incidentally, another (but nameless) woman would hardly need to be an eligible one, surely. It would be equally fatal to Harriet's hopes if Mr Knightley was madly but hopelessly in love with Mrs Weston or Jane Fairfax or Mrs Elton.
