"Rather he than I!" sounds like it's based on a whole lot of hindsight, and it builds on "never cared whether she were dead or alive, but as your friend" (ch15) in making Mr Elton sound unsuitable as a clergyman.

As for KG's notion of Lady Catherine dancing the can-can, I'm sure she'd be a true proficient if only she'd learnt.
