No I dont think they woudl be "pitching in" to help. They are being educated as "young ladies" with accomplishments. They would like most women do sewing and problaby they'd be involved in the dairy and poultry (as many gentry women were) but it woudld be largely supervisory work. Problaby at present Mrs Martin did most of this but as she got older and the girls came home from schcool they would take over more of it. Tehy might do some light housework as well.
Fanny P does sewing, which was considered "genteel" and women who had no sewing to do for themselves sewed for hte poor.. (plus F's family were not well off)... and Charlotte' making mince pies is considered a bit "beneath a young lady's dignity"....
