in consequence of the missive, acquaintance with the Martins of Abbey-Mill-Farm, penned by Stephanie
Teh Martins weren't "farm girls" who helped on the farm excpet maybe supervising teh dairy etc. They had servants, just not as many as gentlefolk did. They problaby didn't board at Mrs G's as they lived nearby but I dont see that they woudl have received any less educaiton than Harriet has.. Its acknowleged that Mrs G's education is not very grand and that H herslef is not very bright but all the girls problaby received a basic grounding and a few accomplishments...
HOwever problably Mr K was right in saying that when nothing was known of Harriet's family, it was best for her to marry a decnet man with a bit of money who loved her and not hold out for a gentleman... However as H was only 17 I think she' might be allowed a few months of "society" to see if anyone else made an offer...However it was in the highest degree unlikely that Mr Knightly or Mr Elton would propose...
