The point I disagree with is that   Written by Ramya (3/15/2011 9:23 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Class and Harriet and Emma, penned by Bridget D
Are you new?

class is the main reason Emma and Harriet won't be close friends anymore. By introducing Robert Martin to Hartfield, (and by dining with the Coles), Emma has finally agreed to mix with people lower than strict gentility.

Why do you think the Martins won't even have proper dresses to wear for dinner? By all indications, they are well off and rising. In one of the previous group reads, there were several posts stating how the Martins were getting quite fashionable since they had espalier apple trees in their gardens and had a new summerhouse built just to drink tea in.

I think both Harriet and Emma have realized that their friendship has not been such a great thing, after all. And that is the real reason for the fading of their friendship.
