Oh yes, Mr Woodhouse himself is...   Written by Reeba (3/14/2011 7:39 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Hmmmmm, well..., penned by BarbaraB
Are you new?

quite serious, that's why it's all the more funny.

By calling it 'gentle' selfishness I think the author is trying to say that we have not to judge him for *his kind of* selfishness which is neither here nor there anyway.

I think if it was meant to be a serious offence on his part the author would never have come up with the hilarious poultry episode.
The poultry situation actually reiterates the funny side of his selfishness.
:-D

Things could have been worse. Emma could have had a gambler, drunkard father who squandered his money away.
At least he gave Emma love.

No one has a perfect situation, so I don't really mind, in fact I love Mr Woodhouse.
I don't see Emma's faults as earth shattering. She didn't run away with a Mr Wickham.
