However, during Miss Austen's time, there were several synonyms that came close to "being in love:" regard, affection, tenderness, warmth, and attachment.
Because I'm the eternal romantic, I STILL think our gallant Mr. Knightley felt a LOT more and a LOT longer than simple sisterly or familial regard for his adorable Emma before the arrival of Frank Churchill!
Don't confuse me with proof like facts.....[:-D)
