Thanks Nikki.   Written by Reeba (3/12/2011 4:23 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Jane Fairfax, penned by Nikki N
Are you new?

The comparison with Lucy Steele was limited to getting 'into' such an engagement. Not the reasons.

It was meant to show that she wasn't so correct in her behaviour after all, because you will allow that it was an incorrect thing to do especially for a girl those days.

>her wish to be with her aunt and grandmother was also genuine

I'm sure that she loved them and wanted to see them, but I'm not convinced that the motivation wasn't FC alone, and the seeing of her aunt and grandmother was an added bonus.
I think she would have gone off to Ireland and kept her visit to Highbury free from having to make a choice like going off to Weymouth.
Mrs Weston narrating what JF might have told her as the right thing to say cannot be ruled out.
She can't say I came here only for him.

>Jane had nobody to comfort or counsel her.

Neither did Elinor.
It's just ones character. If you have a control over your emotions then you have it, which JF didn't.
