I suspect that voting was a tricky decision this week, because the entries formed quite a tight cluster. For example, mine had word-meanings in common with #2, #3, and #5 (observes/alert/observing and guides/advising/guiding), and as soon as I saw #4 I wished I'd thought of the word 'brusque' too.
