that Jane would meet a man who loved her enough and was rich enough not to not care about her lack of money, as she did, but it would have been foolish for them to rely on that happening and make no other provision for her future. So they have educated her to be a governess, but from the way they keep putting off her actually embarking on that career it's plain it's not their preferred option.
