Miss Bates is ready to overlook Emma's rudeness by choosing to focus on her past good conduct. Wow! What a gracious woman!

I too used to think that Emma ought to have out-right apologized to Miss Bates, but I am now convinced that it would only have made Miss Bates uncomfortable.
