... that Miss Bates's kind attitude could actually make things harder for Emma, because she sees again what a genuinely good person Miss B is, despite her sometimes irritating tendency to blather on, and also how unjustifiably mean Emma (however thoughtlessly/unintentionally) had been to her at Box Hill.
