Maybe a case of Incongruency with Mr. Knightley?   Written by jeffrey (3/7/2011 10:38 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Et tu, Knightley?, penned by Reeba
Are you new?

A quote from Reeba:

"....Mr Knightley had better learn a thing or two about women ;-)...."

Perhaps Mr. Knightley does not know how much he affects women in an unintended way. On his side, I believe he is simply being cordial, caring, and inclusive with certain ladies of Highbury. I don't think he really understands how he affects the ladies he attends to.

On the ladies' side, they may be misinterpreting his intentions as trying to attach them. What's there not to like? He is handsome, upright, single, owner of an estate, and a true gentleman. Methinks that would generate romantic notions in any young lady that receives Mr. Knightley's attentions.

Such is the ironice nature of Miss Austen's talent: None of the involved parties are accurately able to pin down each other's intentions
