And I actually do agree that there are things about Jane Fairfax which are strange. Only instead of puzzling over them Emma makes them fit into a fantasy (I will refrain from adjectives) which she conceived back in Chapter 19 before Jane came back to Highbury and Emma could observe them.
However, no amount of pride in the land of some of my ancestors will make me say that Ireland is necessarily a better place to recover from a cold or generally healthier than Surrey, or that it is strange to choose one over the other. Though I will admit Mr Dixon's house may be warmer than Chez Bates.
