Emma's social obligations   Written by Bridget D (3/5/2011 6:11 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, I don't see any evidence, penned by Ramya
Are you new?

If Emma were neglectful of her social duties Im sure Mr K woudld point it out to her. He does point out to her where she is neglectful of her social duties in regard to where they touch on the charitable, with the Bateses and Jane Fairfax.. and he points out that she's NOT doing the right thing, as patroness of hte village, with regard to Harriet. nad that she's bordering on going too far, in interfering in ohter people's lives in finding a wife for Elton and that it will backfire on her. He says IIRC to let Elton choose his own wife but to invite him to dinner etc as is proper. THAT is her social duty, to invite the vicar to dinner, but to get more involved than that is not.

THere's no need for Austen to record every remark made at every party in the book unless it is necesary for the plot....
