A bad hair day for Emma   Written by Ramya (3/4/2011 9:37 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, "Flirting excessively" at Box Hill (long), penned by Anne-Marie
Are you new?

I think we have all had days when we try to overcompensate for disappointment by acting over the top and silly. The narrator explains that's what happened with Emma. Not that Emma was gay and thoughtless from any real felicity; it was rather because she felt less happy than she had expected. She laughed because she was disappointed... Ch. 43

Unfortunately, in her thoughtlessness, she carried it too far and hurt quite a lot of people. Neither Frank nor Emma do even a little bit of good to each other. It would be a mis-match if they ever decided to get married.

And what's going on with Frank? the young man's spirits now rose to a pitch almost unpleasant. Even Emma grew tired at last of flattery and merriment, and wished herself rather walking quietly about with any of the others, or sitting almost alone, and quite unattended to, in tranquil observation of the beautiful views beneath her.
