Reeba I quite agree that Emma is just trying ot make a joke with her father about the "paying attention to brides". there's NO indication that she is in any way deficient in her "company manners" {except when she flips and is rude to Miss B} or that she is suggesting that they should NOT pay a suitable attention to any brides who come inot the area even when it si a vulgar awful woman liek Mrs Elton.

but ppor old Mr W does not understand jokes nad so Emma quickly drops the subject in case she upsets him....
