Stephanie yes you're quite righgt. She wants the role of patroness because it makes her look good. EMma too wants to be a patroness and to look good but she is still aware of a moral dimension in hte patronage, knowing that she OUGHT to do more for Jane and Miss Bates, that she OUGHT to be more generous with her time and more sympathetic instead of letting them irriatate her. And while she makes a lot of mistaks and is not free of ego, she's not totally "doing ti for show" as Mrs Elton is....
