I agree. Emma does know her own consequence both socially and intellectually and it could very easily contribute to her snobbishness. I also agree none of Emma’s immediate circle of friends and family is the source. Perhaps it was inspired by books. Since her reading habits are lackadaisical at best (5) perhaps Emma started a few stories with match making heroines burdened with snobby attitudes but did not finish to see if the attitude or employment served them well. This is just a guess. Thanks! (:D)
