Affording a carriage   Written by Tom P2 (3/1/2011 11:13 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I see symptoms of desperation in Mrs Elton, penned by Tarn
Are you new?

I have not a fault to find with your description of Miss Hawkins as desperate, but I do wonder whether her dowry was crucial to Mr Elton's being able to afford a carriage. We heard in chapter 4 that he was known to have some independent property, so perhaps he's Wentworthing: not buying a carriage when he's single, because he doesn't need one.

(One of these days, I must try writing an acrostic on Miss Hawkins's name.)
