Brides and Emma   Written by Bridget D (2/28/2011 5:59 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Suppose we agree to disagree., penned by Felicity
Are you new?

always read this as playful wit on Emma's part. She does not mean that people should not pay visits to new brides; she means that making such a big deal of a new wife, making her always the first lady of a company etc works as a vanity bait for women to marry

yes I totally agree Felicity. of course she's joking with her father... She is trying ot say to him jokingly "you dont approve of people marrying yet you alwasy say that it's proper to make a visit ot a bride.. " but he doesn't undersand the joke and she drops it.
I dont see any signs that Emma neglects her social obligations even though in a restricted twown like Highbury, they are usually rather dull. She doesn't visit Miss Bates as often as she should, but honestly for a 21 year old girl, a silly amiable chatterbox like Miss B is a bit of a hardship to visit so often... I know that she shoudl go more often and so does she, but I can't blame her for being reluctant... She does do her best to show pracitcal kindness to the Bateses by sending gifts and haivng tehm up to hte house to visit her father...

and shes at fault for not wanting ot have Jane up to Hartfield too often but agian, thtey aren't likely to be intimate friends, Jane isn't that easy with her and its hard to blame her completely for it...
but I cant see any sign that she's not conscious of hte proper social obligations and for the most part she does them...
