I most certainly do not! It is possible that I have misunderstood you, but not wilfully.

I agree with you that Mrs Elton wants to show off her knowledge of the world, and I agree that the examples you have listed show her desire to show off. I also agree that her lack of knowledge makes this amusing.

Where we have gone wrong is here: You said,

She doesn't know that...and means to show off her superior knowledge.

and while I agree that she means to show off her superior knowledge, she doesn't actually show off that knowledge because she is wrong (about the Garden of England). That was all I meant. Sorry if I misunderstood you, but believe me, it was most unconsciously done:)
