--Some interesting and eye opening information in this piece. Also thought I'd mention that Jane Austen wrote a letter to Cassandra telling her how in love she was with Thomas Clarkson who is the author of the book, The History of the Rise, Progress, and Accomplishment of the Abolition of the African Slave Trade by the British Parliament, mentioned in the link. Austen is often criticized for not including the politics of the day in her works but I think she does far more than one might realize on cursory readings; it's a matter of looking far beneath the surface. There is just so much commentary going on in her work that is not immediately noticeable. Thanks for the link.
