Perhaps our definitions of snub vary.   Written by Reeba (2/23/2011 3:39 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Emma and snubbing, penned by Annalise
Are you new?

The only snub I think was taking place in her head about the Coles.

Definition;
To ignore or behave coldly toward; slight. To dismiss, turn down, or frustrate the expectations of.

Emma doesn't do any of the above to Miss Bates. She doesn't visit her 'that much', but invites her home for cards, so ignored she isn't.

She didn't decline to be introduced to Robert Martin.
Decline would mean it was offered and she said 'no'.
According to the above definition, Emma doesn't know Robert so, being cold, dismiss, slight, turn down or frustrate expectations doesn't fit. I don't think Robert expected anything or was frustrated.

The visit to the Martins was in keeping with the decorum of the time.
Again, none of the definition words fit.

>she snubs Elton by making it clear how far beneath her she imagines him to be when he proposes.

How did she make it clear? She told him about her expectations.
The thought;
"so well understanding the gradations of rank below him, and be so blind to what rose above, as to fancy himself shewing no presumption in addressing her! "

...was in her head once she was home.

In fact it was Mr Elton who snubbed her by a cold response to her 'Good Night', and it was Jane who snubbed her by being, cold, and frustrating her expextations. Remember 'stonewalling?' ;-)
Whether she deserved it or not from Jane is debatable (which we 'have' been debating this past week).
