Probably not as a slave trader   Written by Tarn (2/22/2011 12:20 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Well, as Bristol was even more deeply involved in, penned by Kathleen Glancy
Are you new?

"-merchant, of course, he must be called; but, as the whole of the profits of his mercantile life appeared so very moderate, it was not unfair to guess the dignity of his line of trade had been very moderate also."(20)

Slave traders did very well, dominated the house of commons and all that, so I am thinking more glass manufacturer, or tarred rope wholesaler...although they did not do too badly either.

Of course, that is just my opinion. JulieW thought the exact opposite, and focused on allusions to the slave trade, putting forward a very strong (and meticulously researched) case in the last Emma group read. There are two very good posts on Bristol and Birmingham
