I quite adore her! As I am focusing on shifting identities and social classes, Mrs. Elton delights me. She's a newcomer to the neighborhood, and no doubt a newcomer to wealth, but she is determined to come in and take over. Perhaps that was easier to do in her own rather vulgar, arriviste circle, but it won't do with Emma, who is, if anything, rather old-fashioned in her outlook.
