Many of Emma's leading characteristics are reflected in small or large ways in those around her. She seldom recognizes them however, and I think they will pass her by on this occasion, too.

Emma was apparently a good hostess when Jane Fairfax was at Hartfield, since Mr. Knightley praises her for it in ch. 21.
