Distrust makes more sense   Written by Frances G (2/18/2011 10:25 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Perseverance & Diffidence, penned by Robbin
Are you new?

Thanks for pointing out that distrust was a meaning of diffidence. That makes much more sense. Although WE are seeing Emma & Jane for the first time, they've known each other all their lives. In fact, for the first 9 years, they were both living in Highbury. I could imagine that little Jane felt that little Emma looked down on her even back then. She hasn't forgotten.
