pray do not make any more matches   Written by Stephanie (2/18/2011 12:10 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Mr. Knightly Assumes, penned by Jane Marie
Are you new?

I agree that Mr. Knightley wants Emma to see the good in Jane Fairfax. I quite agree with him, actually.

I only apply an ulterior motive to it that I can not get out of my head. He does not simply want Emma to do justice to Miss Fairfax, but to befriend her, be guided by her, and become her intimate acquaintance. If all he was conditioning for was Emma to give Jane Fairfax her due, and treat her well in charity (as many others seem to think), I would not be so put out about it.

But perhaps I read it wrongly. Perhaps the only one meddling in others' relationships thus far is Emma - and the Westons, more subtly, and the gossips at Mrs. Goddard's school, and the Coxes...

Shucks. The only ones I can clear of match-making are Harriet and Mr. Woodhouse. Hey! Do you think they would make a good couple? ;)
