]Perhaps Emma's vulgar comment was based upon the desirability of the "clownish" Robert Martin as an eligible suitor for the "vulgar" Martin girls.

I'm sure you meant "vulgar" Cox girls. I don't think Robert would be allowed to marry one of his sisters- that would be incest.
