Are you new?

"Diffident" to me means "shy," "lacking self-confidence," "unassertive," "distrustful of oneself," "hesitant to put oneself forward," etc. Robbin posted some other associated definitions (I assume slightly changed from Jane Austen's time to ours?), and I was answering that post.
