It looks like Emma is his project just as much as Harriet is Emma's project. Granted, Mr. Knightley is more often in the right than Emma ever has been, that still does not change the fact that he sometimes appears to presume a little too much. I too think he is wrong in trying to force a friendship between two people who don't want it.
