Mrs. Goddard's tutelage, she should have learned the basics of what is considered polite, civil, and proper, especially in regarding the Martin's generousity. With that in mind, even though she remains awed by Emma's stature, she should be able to recognize Emma's behavior as "unbecoming of a young gentlewoman!" Ahem...
