She can't help her lack of intellect, and it is indeed easy to see why she is so overwhelmed by Emma. But in this particular instance she is behaving particularly badly - she owes more to the Martins than a formal call and she knows it, so she is ungrateful. She does not dare oppose Emma's plans and say what she really wants, so she is cowardly. And it is not completely Emma's fault this time. Emma is also not behaving well (and she knows it in her heart) but no worse than usual.
