I think Harriet's...   Written by Reeba (2/14/2011 4:36 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Harriet totally bewitched and cast under a spell by Emma?, penned by jeffrey
Are you new?

defiance will come when she is sure she has got what she was wanting to start with.

As long as she doesn't get the place in the class (which anyone not in, would love to be in so I don't blame her, and here is where Emma's to blame) she will go on being led by Emma.

She has shown quite a few times that she can 'think', like when she was ill, and wanted to go back to Mrs Goddard's.
Or when she didn't agree with Emma about not wanting to marry.
Or when she doesn't support Emma in her opinion of not playing as well as Jane Fairfax.
Of course one could say that she's praising Emma so Emma accepts it, but the way she says it, especially when Harriet expresses the reasons for Jane being superior is, well not so simple minded.

"Are you sure? I saw she had execution, but I did not know she had any taste.

Besides, if she does play so very well, you know, it is no more than she is obliged to do, because she will have to teach

Harriet has this side in her which has come up now and then before too. I have been following her very minutely from the beginning. :)
