I have to read her words several times   Written by Glenn (2/14/2011 12:30 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Miss Bates drops a bombshell (chapt. 21), penned by Delories
Are you new?

When Miss Bates leaves Highbury, she says: "...Good morning to you, my dear sir. Oh! Mr. Knightley is coming too. Well, that is so very!--I am sure if Jane is tired, you will be so kind as to give her your arm.--Mr. Elton, and Miss Hawkins.--Good morning to you."

When I first read this, it sounded like Miss Bates was saying good morning to Mr. Elton and Miss Hawkins- but they were not there! She was really saying good morning to the Woodhouse family as she left.
