Are you new?

Suppose that Harriet had accepted Mr. Martin's proposal, or that Mr. Elton had proposed to her and she accepted. Harriet is a minor, so she would have need her father's (or her guardian's) permission to marry. Of course, it's possible that the person who has her guardianship and pays for her education is not her father (like Col. Brandon).
