These are not apparently people that she knows personally, so why the interest EXCEPT as has been stated, to go on another fishing expedition to satisfy her fanciful suspicions about Jane and Mr Dixon? Jane is apparently no dummy, and if Emma expressed an avid curiousity about things that are really none of her business, why is Jane obligated to satisfy? Maybe Jane is someone who has more to do on a daily basis than to engage in idle gossip. And wasn't she not feeling well at the time the visit took place?
